The USPS has specific design and mailing requirements for folded letters and their matching envelopes. The size and aspect ratio of your letter and its envelope will determine the available postage options. From there, you’ll choose which available rate is the best fit for your campaign and budget. Half Fold: A classic letter folded in half to give your message some privacy. An 8.5x11" letterhead, an average size piece of paper, in a half fold fit nicely in a 6x9" envelope.
Tri Fold: Folded twice, making three panels on each side – Perfect for mailing in our #9 or #10 envelopes.
Z Fold: Another compact way to fold your letterhead to fit inside a mailing envelope.
Double Parallel Fold: Folded once, folded twice. Our 8.5x14" size fits nicely in a #9 or #10 envelope.
Roll Fold: A fold with panels that roll onto itself. An exciting way to keep an announcement at the end of the letter a true surprise. Our 8.5x14" folded letterhead fits nicely in our #9 or #10 envelopes.
Accordion Fold: Folded back and forth to create an accordion-like fold. This fold is better for lighter communications like announcements, as it tends to unfold and stay open.
Gate Fold: Where the two outer edges almost meet in the middle, creating two panels (like a door or gate) on the outside and one large space on the inside.
Double Gate Fold: Take your single gate and make it two by folding it in half. This fold creates door-like gates on the outside, and one on the inside for the double gate effect.
Choose which folding option makes your letterhead feel professional and on brand, while still being interesting.
Your file set up will depend on if your letterhead prints on one side or two sides.
If your letterhead is for Front Only Printing, we will need a 1-page PDF of the artwork, or a single JPG.
If you are printing on the Front & Back of your letterhead, we will need a 2-page PDF, one page for the front and one page for the back, or you can send us two single-page PDFs - one for the front and one for the back. Likewise, you can upload two JPG files.
